One of the things that I love so much about ambient, is that there’s such an enormous room for experimentation and to think out of the box. It’s totally legit to record a spark, digitally stretch it out for ten minutes and call it the day. I mean, one can. And I would not be shocked if it’s been done.
Or, like here, you can make a short little piece with a solitude keyboard, add some careful background ambience and leave it like that.
But the less you do, the more the details count. And here, what made this piece catch my attention was the sound of the lead keyboard. Sounds old and worn, and with the addition of the background noise it shapes a totality, an imaginary world of dark dungeon halls and supernatural beings.
And then, just like that, it’s over again.
Like a little spark in the ambient fire.
